Instead of complying, the driver accelerated away. In response, police placed a tracking device on the fleeing vehicle to monitor its movements.

The pursuit was called off by Cicero police near the viaduct at Cicero and 46th Street, with officers opting to cease direct pursuit for safety reasons.

However, the situation took a drastic turn when the vehicle barreled through a red light at Kostner Avenue. Losing control, it ultimately collided with the front porch of a home on the 4300 block of Cermak Road in the Lawndale neighborhood.

The crash resulted in injuries to two individuals, and police have confirmed that one person has been taken into custody following the incident.

Chopper 7 was over the scene about 5:15 p.m. at Cermak Road and Kostner Avenue.

There was a large police response in the area, blocking some streets.

A red sedan appeared to have crashed into a home next to an Amoco gas station, located at 4351 W. Cermak.

The home’s front steps were destroyed.

Hillside police said the incident started as a retail theft at a Michael’s store.
