Chicago crime: CBS Chicago news crew attacked near Adler Planetarium on Museum Campus

According to CBS Chicago, three people were arrested in connection with the incident, apparently following a police pursuit.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A CBS2 Chicago news crew preparing for a live report on Solidarity Drive was confronted Monday by a group of men who allegedly tried to send a dog after them while shouting racial slurs, according to police and the station.

Police said an undetermined number of men pulled up in a white truck, got out and directed a dog toward the station’s photographer and reporter as they set up for a 4 p.m. broadcast. Investigators said the men also yelled racial slurs at the crew.

When the dog did not attack, one of the men became angry and threw the crew’s camera equipment to the ground, police said. Another man then smashed the windshield of the CBS2 Chicago live truck, according to authorities.

By Monday evening, the live truck was still parked along Solidarity Drive with its windshield shattered. The camera and tripod the crew had been preparing to use were nearby, surrounded by police tape.

The reporter and news photographer were not injured.

Chicago police did not confirm any arrests Monday night. However, CBS Chicago reported that three people were taken into custody in Brighton Park in connection with the incident, apparently after a police pursuit.

CBS2 Chicago responded to the attack in a statement Monday night, saying, “We are shocked and horrified by this crime and we are grateful that our journalists are safe.”
