In the heart of Chicago, a culinary institution is celebrating a remarkable milestone. This month, Pizzeria Due, a beloved fixture in the city’s pizza scene, is commemorating 70 years of serving its iconic deep dish pizza.

As part of ABC7’s “Pizza Power” series, which coincides with National Pizza Month, Pizzeria Due’s anniversary highlights its rich history and enduring popularity. Established in 1955 at 619 N. Wabash Ave., this sister restaurant to the legendary Pizzeria Uno quickly became a staple in downtown Chicago. Pizzeria Uno first introduced the world to Chicago-style deep dish in 1943, setting the stage for its sibling’s success.

In a recent appearance on ABC7 Chicago’s morning show, General Manager Rachel Mihich delved into what makes their deep dish pizza a true Chicago original. “It’s the buttery crust, chunky tomato sauce, and the layers of cheese that make it special,” Mihich explained, emphasizing the unique elements that have kept patrons coming back for decades.

To honor its seven-decade legacy, Pizzeria Due is throwing a 70th birthday celebration on Wednesday, October 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening promises a lively atmosphere with live local music, a deep dish pizza cooking demonstration, and a partnership with Goose Island Beer Co. A cake and pizza-cutting ceremony will mark the occasion, celebrating the restaurant’s significant contributions to the Windy City’s culinary landscape.

In the lead-up to the festivities, Pizzeria Due is inviting fans to participate in a contest with enticing prizes. Those eager to join the celebration and try their luck can enter the giveaway at unos.com/pizzeriadue70th.
