Charlie Kirk’s Mother Responds Emotionally to Erika Kirk Rumors

In a rare interview, Charlie Kirk’s mother rejected reports of tension between the family and Erika. Kathryn Kirk said the death of her son had instead deepened the bond between the two women, adding that Charlie would be devastated by the hostile treatment his widow has received online.

“We were 100% behind her,” Kathryn told Vanity Fair in a profile of Erika. She dismissed speculation that Charlie’s parents hold his widow responsible for his death or are battling her over his estate and the future of Turning Point USA.

“Erika and I have, through the trauma, grown closer,” Kathryn said. “We knew Charlie in a way that no one else did. We can look at each other’s eyes, and we know the depth of our despair.”

According to the magazine, Kathryn had previously declined to speak with reporters and said she prefers to live as a private citizen. She believes, however, that her decision to remain quiet has helped fuel online conspiracy theories about her relationship with Erika.

Kathryn denied those allegations, Vanity Fair reported, becoming emotional as she described how painful it would be for her son to see the way Erika has been targeted on social media.

Kathryn also remembered how quickly journalists began contacting her after the shooting.

“A TMZ reporter called me even before I talked to my daughter. Before I was running the car,” she told Vanity Fair.

The profile also described the steps Charlie and Erika had been taking to protect their family’s future as reported death threats intensified.

Doug DeGroote, a Turning Point board member who oversees the couple’s personal finances, said they were finalizing their will. They were scheduled to visit his office and sign the documents on the Monday after Charlie was killed, according to Vanity Fair.

The evening before his death, Charlie reportedly spoke with Erika and their pastor about security measures, including bullet-resistant glass shields and protective vests.

Erika, members of the Turning Point board and several longtime allies also told the magazine that Charlie had made his wishes clear: If he were ever unable to lead, he wanted his wife to take over.

Kathryn said Charlie kept those discussions from his parents because, as he put it, the information “would just go right into our fears.”

“She knew him more than anyone,” a former Turning Point employee told the magazine while discussing Erika’s decision to lead the organization.

Erika also spoke about the unbearable experience of watching surveillance footage of the shooting during a preliminary hearing in September.

As the video showed Robinson preparing to fire, she recalled silently begging him to stop: “Don’t do it. Don’t you dare do it. It’s not too late.” According to Vanity Fair, Erika clung to Kathryn’s arm and cried out when the footage captured the moment he took aim.

Erika also recalled insisting on seeing her husband’s body at the Utah hospital after a doctor advised against it.

“I looked back at him and said, ‘With all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband. I didn’t get a kiss goodbye this morning. I just want to kiss my husband,’” she told Vanity Fair.

Hospital staff removed tubes from Charlie’s mouth, wrapped his neck and cleared away blood before she saw him, the outlet reported.

“I’ll never be able to put it into words,” Erika said. “But Charlie had a smirk. It wasn’t sad.”
