Officers responded to the scene and found a victim with a gunshot wound to the inner thigh, police said. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Police have classified the incident as a death investigation.
Officers could be seen in looking for evidence in the back of the condo building near a loading dock.
Surveillance video from a neighboring building shows a person walking a dog around the same time the shooting took place.
One neighbor who did not want to go on camera said he heard someone yell for help. Tuesday morning, officers could be seen with scuba gear near the water as they searched for clues.
“I asked my doorman, however, and he said he saw six or seven police squad cars running around Sheridan road,” neighbor Leslie said. “I was stunned because you never hear or see something go on like this go on in this area.”
Neighbors are tried to make sense of what took place leading up to the shooting.
“It is very rare that you even see someone walking over there, unless you are walking your dog, that’s usually who is back there,” neighbor Brian Linker said.
