CHICAGO () — Chicago police are investigating after suspects broke into at least 41 vehicles in a South Side parking lot early Saturday morning.
At least 28 additional vehicles were damaged during a second break-in at a nearby parking lot shortly afterward.

The first incident occurred in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, near East 33rd and South State streets, shortly before 2:15 a.m., police said.
Four people arrived in a black SUV and smashed the windows of 41 vehicles in the lot. Police said it was not immediately known whether anything was stolen. The group then left the area in the SUV.
The vehicle break-ins took place in a parking lot belonging to the Illinois Institute of Technology.
“Illinois Tech Public Safety responded alongside the Chicago Police Department to reports of vehicle break-ins in a campus parking lot early Saturday morning,” an Illinois Tech spokesperson said in a statement. “The university has increased patrols in campus parking areas, and we are working with affected vehicle owners directly. The safety and security of our students and campus community is always our top priority, and we are continuing to work with CPD as it investigates the incident.”
About an hour later, at approximately 3:10 a.m., three suspects in a dark-colored Jeep SUV damaged at least 28 vehicles at a nearby parking lot in the 3200 block of South King Drive, according to CPD.
Police also had not determined whether any property was taken from those vehicles.
Authorities did not immediately release further details about either incident.
