Chilling surveillance video captures the moments a woman exits an In-Shape gym in California, shortly before she was reportedly kidnapped, robbed, and assaulted by a gun-wielding gang member.
The footage, presented to jurors on Wednesday in a Kern County court, features the victim, known as Jane Doe, as she leaves the fitness center in 2023 after her workout.
In the video, Doe is seen walking through the parking lot of In-Shape Family Fitness in Bakersfield, dressed in a black workout ensemble.
Prosecutors allege that just moments after this, she was violently abducted at gunpoint by 44-year-old Vincent DeLeon.
DeLeon, facing charges of kidnapping, carjacking, robbery, and rape, has entered a plea of not guilty. According to KGET, he was purportedly lurking in the parking lot, seeking vehicles to break into.
Prosecutors contend that DeLeon observed Doe entering the gym earlier that day and marked her as his target.
DeLeon “told her she should have been more careful and that he’d been waiting for her for over an hour,” the court heard at a preliminary hearing in 2024.

When Doe finished her workout and returned to her car, DeLeon approached her and stuck a gun in her face, District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said in court Wednesday, according to KGET.
“Scoot over,” he allegedly said.
DeLeon then drove away in Doe’s car with her, Zimmer said, leaving his alleged accomplice Jesus Chavez Torres waiting in the vehicle the pair arrived in.
He kept in touch by phone with Torres as he took Doe to multiple ATMs and forced her to withdraw hundreds of dollars, Zimmer said.
Doe testified DeLeon held her at gunpoint and drove her to an orange orchard, where he raped her. Afterward, DeLeon left Doe at a nearby grocery store, she testified.
Tear-jerking footage shown in court Wednesday showed the young woman being left in the parking lot at Vallarta Supermarket.
“Happy holidays,” DeLeon allegedly told her before driving away. While the video was shown, DeLeon reportedly snickered in the courtroom.
After the attack, DeLeon met with Torres to buy clothing using Doe’s stolen debit card, Zimmer said.
DeLeon was arrested the same day as his alleged crimes took place. Torres was later identified through phone records and taken into custody, reports said.
Torres has pleaded no contest to kidnapping and vehicle theft-related charges. The trial is ongoing.
