CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A dog training facility owner in Verbena has been convicted of animal cruelty, with the verdict delivered on Thursday.
Cupid Seymour, who runs a dog obedience school in Verbena, first faced a guilty verdict for animal cruelty in April. His initial sentencing included a year-long jail term, with 180 days to be served, plus two years of probation. Additionally, Seymour was required to pay $3,500 in restitution and a $1,000 fine. After appealing the decision, a retrial once again resulted in a guilty verdict.
The case revolves around Seymour’s establishment, Cupid’s Dog House. In September 2024, a puppy just four months old was signed up for obedience training and was under Seymour’s care for three weeks. Tragically, Seymour later informed the puppy’s owner of its death, and a subsequent necropsy revealed the puppy had no food in its gastrointestinal system.
Seymour’s sentencing is scheduled for November 13 at 8:30 a.m.
