TEXAS Senator Angela Paxton has filed for divorce from her attorney general husband.
The 62-year-old politician said that she is divorcing Ken Paxton on “biblical grounds.”
Paxton made the stunning announcement in a statement posted on social media.
She wrote, “Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation.
“But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.
“I proceed with total confidence, knowing that God continually works everything for the benefit of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.”
Moments after Paxton posted her statement, Ken also announced that the couple were calling it quits.
He stated, “After enduring numerous political challenges and public examination, Angela and I have chosen to begin a new phase in our lives.
“I couldn’t be prouder or more thankful for the wonderful family God has given us, and I am dedicated to supporting our remarkable children and grandchildren.”
“I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time.”
Ken has served as the attorney general since 2015, but he was impeached by the Texas House of Representatives in 2023.
At the time, the house accused him of corruption and having an extramarital affair.
However, the Senate went on to acquit him of the charges.
Throughout the trial proceedings, Paxton, who has been a Senator since 2019, sat in the courtroom, but she never voted on the outcome, the Texas Tribune reported.
Ken is currently challenging Senator John Cornyn for his seat in the Republican Primary.
Paxton and her husband are devout Christians and helped to found an evangelical megachurch in the 90s.
They’ve been married since 1986 and share four children.
