Clearwater man arrested, charged with child sexual battery

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect admitted to having sexual contact with the victim.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, a Clearwater resident was taken into custody and charged on Friday for allegedly committing sexual battery against a minor.

Investigators from the Crimes Against Children Unit reported that Bobby McAffee, aged 62, was pinpointed as a suspect following a report from a young victim who said he was sexually assaulted at the age of 8.

The investigation, which began Aug. 23, 2024, found the incident happened in St. Petersburg. 

Investigators said on Friday, as detectives were interviewing McAffee, he admitted to having sexual contact with the victim.

McAffee also told detectives he tested positive for HIV and the victim recently discovered he was positive for HIV, according to investigators.

McAffee faces one count of sexual battery of a child less than 12 years old.

He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail after his arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
