LAKE COUNTY, Ind. () — Additional assistance is headed to northwest Indiana as thousands of residents continue to deal with prolonged power outages nearly two weeks after severe storms battered the region.
ComEd and the Chicago Bears announced new support efforts Saturday for communities still recovering from the storm damage.
Thousands of Indiana residents have been without electricity since August 11, when multiple rounds of powerful storms moved through the Chicago area.
By Saturday afternoon, NIPSCO reported that more than 30,000 customers remained without power across northwest Indiana.
ComEd said it is sending 60 employees to help NIPSCO crews with restoration work in the hardest-hit areas of northwest Indiana.
The company said it has already restored service to more than 410,000 ComEd customers in northern Illinois following the severe weather.
ComEd crews were expected to leave for Indiana around 3 p.m. Saturday, with restoration work anticipated to continue for several more days.
