Cook County State's Attorney's Office creating its own CTA Task Force; CTA unveiled new security plan after threat of funding cuts

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has introduced a new security strategy following warnings of potential funding reductions from the Trump administration.

In a bid to tackle crime on public transportation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has announced the formation of a dedicated CTA Task Force.

This initiative is the latest effort by local authorities to enhance safety across the transit network.

The task force will consist of 36 assistant state’s attorneys and investigators, all of whom will undergo specialized training aimed at improving the prosecution of transit-related crimes.

Additionally, the state’s attorney’s office is implementing a “CTA Crime Pre-trial Release Conditions Protocol.” This policy mandates that assistant state’s attorneys seek pre-trial detention for individuals accused of violent offenses on the CTA.

Should a defendant be released pre-trial, the office will request that the court impose limitations on the individual’s access to public transit as a condition of their release.

The federal government had directed the city to better address crime.

The CTA and Chicago Police Department have also come up with their own plans.
