Margaret Hamp, a former colleague of Lindsay Clancy, told jurors Monday that Clancy once broke down in tears after Hamp described the case of Andrea Yates, the Texas mother who drowned her five children.
Hamp testified that the conversation came up at work after a pregnant woman arrived at the hospital saying she wanted to take her own life.
“I explained [Yates] to her, and [Lindsay] cried and said, ‘How could a mother hurt her children?’ ” Hamp recalled in court.

Yates killed her children in 2001. She was convicted in her first trial, but that verdict was later thrown out. At a second trial in 2006, she was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
