Delta Jet’s Collision Alarms Sound in Atlanta Airport Close Call

Cockpit warning systems sounded as two Delta Air Lines aircraft came dangerously close over Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, prompting a federal investigation into the late-night near miss.

The close call involving the two Delta flights occurred at about 11 p.m. Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration told INC News in a statement.

“Delta Air Lines Flight 2472 was departing from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when it crossed in front of Delta Air Lines Flight 1568, which had executed a pilot-initiated go-around because another aircraft was slow to exit the same runway,” the FAA said.

Audio from air traffic control captured the tense moment, with on-board anti-collision alerts sounding in the cockpit and one pilot heard saying, “My goodness,” according to recordings obtained by CBS News.

In a statement to INC News, Delta said the crew’s actions followed established procedures and emphasized that its pilots receive extensive training for rare situations like this one.

“As safety remains at the core of everything we do, the crew of Delta Flight 1568 performed a go-around during approach into Atlanta due to potential traffic on the runway,” Delta said. “During the go-around, the crew maneuvered in accordance with established procedures to maintain separation from other air traffic.”

The airline said that the flight landed safely and passengers deplaned normally.

The FAA said the incident is under investigation. Delta said it will fully cooperate with authorities on any review.
