'Predator: Badlands' director Dan Trachtenberg wanted to "force" classic movie monster "through a gauntlet"

Director Dan Trachtenberg takes audiences to new heights of danger with “Predator: Badlands,” the latest addition to the esteemed “Predator” series. Promising thrills and chills, Trachtenberg introduces what he calls “the most dangerous planet in the universe.”

Leading the cast are Elle Fanning, portraying Thia, and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, taking on the role of Dek. Together, they form an unexpected partnership, battling for survival on a perilous and remote planet.

In a behind-the-scenes featurette, Trachtenberg reveals his creative vision for the film, stating, “Following ‘Prey,’ I wanted to push the boundaries of this iconic franchise. My aim was to challenge this classic movie monster, putting him through a rigorous test to uncover his true essence.”

Trachtenberg is eager for viewers to embark on “a genuine giant screen adventure,” where they can champion a character in ways previously unseen in the series.

Schuster-Koloamatangi discusses the challenges faced by his character, who battles not only formidable creatures but also the hostile environment itself. He praises Trachtenberg’s dedication, noting, “He’s a huge ‘Predator’ aficionado, and his enthusiasm for the story and universe is contagious.”

Trachtenberg’s passion for the franchise is evident, having directed “Prey” and Hulu’s animated “Predator: Killer of Killers,” further solidifying his commitment to the “Predator” legacy.

20th Century Studios’ “Predator: Badlands” premieres in theaters November 7.
