A new documentary is offering Disney fans a rare look at the creative process behind transforming beloved movies into fully immersive theme park experiences around the world.
In “Disney Worldbuilders,” Academy Award and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks goes behind the scenes through candid interviews with Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush and Josh D’Amaro.

Together, they discuss the ideas, creative leaps and behind-the-scenes decisions that brought stories from “Avatar,” “Star Wars,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, “Frozen” and “Zootopia” off the screen and into real-world destinations guests can explore.
The film will also preview new lands and attractions planned for Disney destinations worldwide, giving viewers an early look at what is being described as one of the most ambitious expansion periods in Disney parks history.
Ahead of its Disney+ debut, “Disney Worldbuilders” will have its world premiere at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Sunday, August 16, where attendees will be among the first to see the documentary.
Iwerks also has a deep personal connection to Disney history: She is the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, Walt Disney’s original animator and the co-creator of Mickey Mouse.
“Disney Worldbuilders” premieres August 20 on Disney+.
