The focus of the investigation appears to be on whether Carroll committed perjury during her civil lawsuits against Trump. These lawsuits culminated in Carroll being awarded a $5 million judgment, as per the sources.

Sources also indicate that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has stepped aside from this investigation due to his previous involvement as Trump’s legal representative in the case.

This development was first reported by CNN and is being overseen by Andrew Boutros, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, according to those familiar with the situation.
