WASHINGTON — Doug McCain, who served as a Navy pilot and was the oldest son of the late Senator John McCain, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 66, according to a statement from his family.
The details surrounding his death have not been disclosed.
“With a heavy heart, I share the sorrowful news of my brother Doug McCain’s sudden departure,” Meghan McCain expressed in a heartfelt tribute.
“Doug was an incredible and joyful presence in my life, always providing unwavering support,” she continued. “His ability to infuse humor, enjoyment, and engaging conversation into any gathering was unparalleled. I will hold our shared moments dear. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Ashley, and their children, Caroline and Shepp.”

Doug leaves behind his wife Ashley, his mother Carol, two children, and an extended family. He was born to Carol Shepp, John McCain’s first wife, and was adopted by McCain when the couple wed in 1965.
