Members of the Democratic Socialists of America are on a collision course with the only Democrat leading an agency in the Trump administration.
The group’s members are upset that National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy allegedly has maintained overly friendly relationships with Republican lawmakers during the midterm election campaign.
At an Oct. 19 virtual meeting of the DSA’s electoral commission, which focused largely on competitive Senate races in Alaska and Texas, several participants criticized Homendy, according to sources. Their complaints reportedly frustrated congressional Democrats as well.
“[The extremists’] long term goal is to install only DSA members into government roles,” a DC Democrat said angrily.
A Connecticut native, Homendy has been appointed to the National Transportation Safety Board by both Republican President Trump and Democratic former President Joe Biden at various points since 2018.
She has earned support from lawmakers in both parties, many of whom view her as an independent official focused on investigating accidents rather than advancing a partisan agenda.

The DSA members’ complaints reportedly include the following:
“I suspect this DSA effort of trying to ‘out’ Democrats who have relationships with Republicans will expand in 2027,” the Washington Democratic insider said.
“I can tell you: [Homendy] actually doesn’t give a s–t about political party, and if the NTSB became political in any direction, that would be the end of aviation and transportation safety in the US.”
Homendy declined to comment.
A DSA representative said the organization was reviewing the matter.
The DSA has gained influence, particularly after one of its members, Zohran Mamdani, won the New York City mayoral election last year in the nation’s largest municipality.
DSA-backed candidates also captured more congressional primaries this year, while democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is exploring a possible campaign for the US Senate or the presidency in 2028.
