Step aside, Hailey Bieber—there’s a new $25 must-have making waves at Erewhon, and this one is backed by science. The trendy grocery chain has partnered with the innovative wellness company, Function, to introduce “The World’s Healthiest Smoothie?” This yearlong collaboration is set to challenge conventional notions of health.
As of today, this groundbreaking smoothie will be available in sleek glass bottles at all Southern California Erewhon locations, with plans for availability extending through February 2027. The creators emphasize that this smoothie is not just another blend of superfoods, they shared with The California Post.
Function co-founder and longevity expert Dr. Mark Hyman has crafted what he calls a “biohacker in a bottle.” This concoction addresses actual nutritional deficiencies identified from Function’s extensive member database. Notably, over 65% of members fall outside the optimal range for fasting insulin, and 54% have elevated levels of Apolipoprotein B, a significant cardiovascular health indicator.
To combat these issues, the team developed a 20-ingredient meal-replacement blend that focuses on enhancing microbiome health, balancing inflammation, stabilizing blood sugar, and supporting metabolic functions.
This smoothie avoids “aesthetic-only” superfoods and simplistic solutions, opting instead for ingredients chosen with specific health benefits in mind. The robust lineup includes unsweetened almond milk, flax and chia seeds, green banana, wild blueberries, pomegranate, cranberry, arugula, fresh herbs, walnuts, cold-pressed beet juice, ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, MCT oil, blended omega oils, BCAAs, creatine, and a unique plant protein sourced from chocho beans cultivated in the Andes.
The smoothie skips the “aesthetic-only” superfoods and shortcuts in favor of purpose-driven ingredients. The heavy-hitting list includes: unsweetened almond milk, flax and chia seeds, green banana, wild blueberries, pomegranate, cranberry, arugula, fresh herbs, walnuts, cold-pressed beet juice, ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, MCT oil, blended omega oils, BCAAs, creatine and a single-ingredient plant protein derived from chocho beans grown high in the Andes.
In an industry built on superfood hype and one-size-fits-all claims, Function co-founder and CEO Jonathan Swerdlin says it’s time for a reality check.
“This isn’t about one more product on a shelf,” said Swerdlin. “We are challenging the idea that ‘healthy’ can be reduced to a label.”
“No shortcuts,” the company promises.
The smoothie comes with a QR code dangling from each bottle, offering buyers $25 off a Function membership. The pitch? Don’t just drink your health — measure it.
