Meta’s new wearables trade-in program gives you Ray-Ban and Oakley discounts

Meta has introduced a novel trade-in discount program for its smart glasses, available exclusively until the end of December. According to the company’s official site, customers can trade in models like the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Oakley Meta HSTN, and Oakley Meta Vanguard for a discount. However, the Meta Ray-Ban Display is not included in this offer, nor are any limited edition or refurbished glasses.

If you’re considering an upgrade, you can trade in your first-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Interestingly, Meta is also extending trade-in credits for select earbud models. For those curious, Meta provides a comprehensive list of eligible earbuds for trade-in.

Curiously, there’s a mention of “Apple AirPods Pro 4” in Meta’s list, although such a model doesn’t currently exist. This raises questions about whether Meta intended to reference the AirPods 4 or the AirPods Pro 3.

To utilize the trade-in discount, purchases must be made directly through Meta. When you add eligible glasses to your shopping cart, you should see an option for the trade-in discount. Some users on Reddit have noted the need to switch browsers to activate the offer, so consider trying a different browser if it doesn’t appear initially.

The discounts vary depending on the device and its condition, with Meta offering up to $113 off. This can significantly reduce the $379 price of the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, which boasts double the battery life and an improved camera over the first-gen model. However, if extended battery life isn’t a priority and you don’t have other wearables to trade in, opting for the discounted first-gen glasses might be the more economical choice.
