A man in a wheelchair was killed in a traffic crash on Jacksonville’s Southside after being struck by two vehicles Thursday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a man in a wheelchair was involved in a fatal traffic accident on Jacksonville’s Southside Thursday night.

According to JSO, the crash happened around 8:12 p.m. in the 10900 block of Old Gainesville Road.

The police reported that the man, described as being in his late 40s, was in the middle of the road when he was struck by a Toyota two-door vehicle moving westward. The collision propelled him into the eastbound lane, where a Toyota four-door sedan struck him again.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

JSO says both drivers stayed at the scene and are cooperating with detectives.

This marks the 124th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 28th involving a pedestrian, according to JSO.

Police said the 10900 block of Old Gainesville Road remained shut down for about an hour Thursday night while investigators processed the scene.
