1 dead after car slams into lavish Portland social club with possible explosives, FBI investigating

A dramatic overnight incident in Oregon has resulted in a fatality and sparked a significant police investigation after a vehicle crashed into one of Portland’s most prestigious social venues, the Multnomah Athletic Club, with potential explosives found inside.

Portland Fire and Rescue teams were alerted shortly before 2:50 a.m. local time on Saturday, responding to reports of a vehicle that had plowed through the club’s front entrance and ignited in flames, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

Once firefighters subdued the blaze, they discovered a deceased individual within the wreckage, as reported by officials.

An FBI Portland spokesperson told Fox News Digital it is involved in a joint investigation with the PPB.

“It’s too early to determine motive at this point, but we can safely say there’s no threat to the public at this time,” the spokesperson said.

In a Facebook post, the club said it would remain closed until further notice, calling the incident “serious.”

“At this time, we do not have a timeline for reopening, but we’re expecting a prolonged close,” club leadership wrote in the post. “Our priority is ensuring the club is safe before welcoming our community back.

The incident comes less than a month after another car crashed into the club April 8, injuring a security guard, according to a report from KPTV.

It is unclear if the cases are connected.

The PPB and FBI Portland did not immediately respond to additional inquiries from Fox News Digital.

A joint news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
