Federal authorities are now becoming involved after a Texas woman was allegedly attacked by a group of suspects who, according to police, chanted “Free Karmelo” during the assault.
Longview Police Department Public Information Officer LaDarian Brown said during a news conference that the FBI is assisting because of reported online threats connected to the case.
“We are aware of social media conversations concerning retaliation, division and attacks between members of our community. Those statements are being reviewed seriously,” Brown said.
Brown added that officials do not believe there is an active threat to the public. News Agency has contacted the FBI seeking comment.
