This shooting led to a significant police and SWAT team presence in the 3700 block of West Lexington Avenue, located in Homan Square near Garfield Park. Aerial footage was captured by Chopper 7.

The FBI has confirmed that the incident involved one of their agents.
“The FBI is conducting a review of an agent-involved shooting that took place on May 28, 2026, at around 3:00 PM CT near Garfield Park in Chicago,” the bureau stated. “We take all incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. Following FBI policy, the shooting is being reviewed by our Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time.”
The Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Abdulhafedh was pronounced dead at the scene.
CPD officials said Chicago police officers had initially responded, and the FBI is now leading the investigation.
A neighbor told ABC7 dozens of shots were fired.
“He was just sitting in the car, and they tried to get in the car, and they couldn’t get in the car. He came up through the sunroof and started spraying bullets, and they sprayed back at him,” the neighbor said.
A suspect involved in the shooting was believed to be tied to a recent bank robbery, sources told ABC7. Police responded to reports of a violent crime taking place.
A man who didn’t want to give his name told ABC7 he’s the older brother of the man shot and killed by the FBI while sitting in a dark-colored SUV.
“I’m heartbroken. I mean, I don’t know how to feel. I can’t, don’t go no feelings. I mean, like, police kill your brother. How would you feel?” the man said. “I don’t know nothing about if he was tied with no bank robbery. If he was, that’s something I didn’t know about.”
The shooting is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division.
No further information was immediately available.
