Joe Kent, the former head of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), is under investigation by the FBI for allegedly disclosing confidential information.
Shelby Talcott, a White House Correspondent for Semafor, reported that according to “three sources,” Kent, who resigned from his position on Tuesday, is being investigated by the FBI. The alleged investigation “pre-dates his departure.”
Another social media comment by Talcott indicated that a “fourth source” had corroborated this information.
On Tuesday, Kent announced on platform X that he had chosen to step down from his role. He stated that he could not, in good conscience, support the ongoing conflict in Iran.
“Iran posed no immediate threat to our nation, and it is evident that this war began due to influence from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent explained.
In a letter to President Donald Trump, Kent expressed his support for “the values and foreign policies” Trump advocated during the 2016, 2020, and 2024 campaigns.
“Until June 2025, you acknowledged that Middle Eastern conflicts were a quagmire, costing America the lives of our brave patriots and draining the nation’s wealth and prosperity,” Kent elaborated.
“Until June of 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation,” Kent continued.
In response to Kent’s resignation, Trump expressed that it was “a good thing” he resigned and described Kent as being “very weak on security.”
“I read his statement,” Trump said. “I always thought he was a nice guy, but I always thought he was weak on security, very weak on security. I didn’t know him well.”
