The FBI has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting involving one of its agents on Chicago’s West Side, which prompted a substantial response from both the Chicago police and SWAT teams.
The incident took place in the 3700 block of West Lexington Avenue, situated in Homan Square near Garfield Park, with aerial footage capturing the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that the shooting involved an FBI agent.
In a statement, the FBI clarified, “We are currently reviewing an agent-involved shooting that occurred on May 28, 2026, at about 3:00 PM CT near Garfield Park in Chicago. We approach all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members with utmost seriousness. Consistent with FBI policy, the FBI’s Inspection Division is overseeing the review of this incident. As the investigation is active, no further information is available at this time.”
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, a death was reported at the scene around the time of the incident.
Chicago Police Department (CPD) officials indicated that their officers initially responded to the situation, but the FBI has now assumed control of the investigation.
A suspect involved in the shooting was believed to be tied to a recent bank robbery, sources told ABC7. Police responded to reports of a violent crime taking place.
