A POPULAR cheese brand has recalled thousands of pounds of products, and shoppers should check their shelves.

The manufacturing company issued an urgent product recall after finding traces of potentially fatal bacteria.

Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op announced that several kinds of cheese should be thrown out as they may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

This is an organism that, if consumed, could cause a dangerous infection.

Middlefield gave a full list of products that could contain the bacteria.

The company announced a recall of 246.5 pounds of its 100% Grass-fed Pepper Jack Cheese available in 8 oz packages, 5 lb loaves, and 40 lb loaves.

Two and a half lbs of the brand’s Horseradish Flavored Cheese, which is sold in 8 oz packages, have also been ripped from shelves.

Meanwhile, a whopping 640 lbs of Middlefield’s Monterey Jack Cheese, sold in 8 oz packages, 5 lb loaves, and 40 lb loaves, were recalled.

And 4,544.5 lbs of White Cheddar Cheese sold in 40 lb loaves were found to be affected by the recall.

Shoppers who purchased any of these products in Ohio from July 14 to August 7 should not consume the cheeses.

The US Food & Drug Administration provided the official names and lot codes for all of the affected items.

Listeria can grow inside foods, and most often develops in contaminated soft cheeses, deli meats, or dairy products.

People who get an infection from the bacteria can develop horrific symptoms that could lead to death.

Those who are generally healthy and contract an infection might experience a temporary bout of high fever, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea.

However, more at-risk populations like young children, frail or elderly people, and pregnant women could die from complications, the FDA said.

Pregnant women could also have miscarriages or stillbirths if they accidentally eat the infected snacks.

No one has reported getting sick from Middlefield cheeses.

Anyone with an affected item in their refrigerator should either throw it away or return the product for a full refund.

Middlefield is just the latest in a disturbing string of recalls.

Ford recently announced that one popular model should be returned over an axle issue.

Meanwhile, a hair tool sold at Walmart and Target was recalled due to electrocution risks.

And an Aldi snack was ripped from shelves over fears it was contaminated with plastic.
