Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, has announced her intention to initiate a vote in the House next week aimed at expelling Representative Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California. This decision follows explosive allegations of sexual assault against Swalwell. Luna, expressing her stance, stated she refuses to work alongside individuals she labels as “sexual deviants.”

In an interview with Fox News on Saturday, Luna’s comments came on the heels of accusations from an unnamed former staffer, who claimed she was sexually assaulted by Swalwell on two separate occasions while she was under the influence of alcohol. One alleged incident reportedly took place at a charity gala in New York in 2024.

A motion to expel a member from the House holds privileged status, which allows Luna to force a direct vote on the matter regarding Swalwell. Swalwell is a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and is actively campaigning for governor in the upcoming race to replace Governor Gavin Newsom.

“I am filing a motion to expel Eric Swalwell from Congress,” she simultaneously announced on X.

Swalwell said “these allegations of sexual assault are flat false” and “did not happen,” while apologizing to his wife for “mistakes in judgement.”

A motion to expel is considered privileged in the House – meaning Luna can compel lawmakers to vote up or down on Swalwell, who is a leading Democratic candidate for governor in the race to succeed Gov. Gavin Newsom.
