The tragic incident involving two 4-year-old twin boys who allegedly shot themselves with an unsecured firearm has led to serious charges against their parents in Florida. This heartbreaking story emerged when the Orange County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the children were found with gunshot wounds in their family home.
Keishara Goodrum, aged 39, is facing two counts of child neglect resulting in great bodily harm, while Maurice Bright, aged 40, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. These charges come in the wake of the twins’ critical injuries, which have left them in a precarious condition.
According to authorities, both children were swiftly transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, where they remain under intensive care, listed as critical but stable. The gravity of the situation underscores the importance of firearm safety and parental responsibility.
The sequence of events began when deputies were called to AdventHealth East Orlando hospital, where the parents had rushed the boys after the incident. The parents reported to the deputies that they had not witnessed the shooting but were alerted by a loud “pop” from within their residence, as detailed in the arrest affidavit.

Goodrum said she was in the kitchen making breakfast for her and her five children, and Bright was on the back porch cooking on the grill when the incident unfolded.
Goodrum told deputies that she had been drinking the night before and the twins may have gotten access to the gun because she forgot to secure it after leaving it under a couch cushion.
