A former camp counselor was taken into custody last weekend for allegedly threatening to “create the next Columbine shooting” if campers at a Texas summer camp upset him.

Authorities arrested 23-year-old Mario Bernal from Vernal, Utah, on Sunday for making “terroristic threats” directed at Christian Camp Cho-Yeh in Livingston, as announced by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office through a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Facing potential dismissal due to harsh behavior and mistreating children, Bernal allegedly reiterated his threat to mimic the tragic 1999 Columbine High School event – where 12 students and a teacher lost their lives – if he were terminated from the camp, according to Fox 26 Houston, referencing an arrest warrant affidavit.

Polk County Jail online records show Bernal remains in custody and is being held on a $250,000 surety bond.
