Authorities have identified the 26-year-old woman found dead in the water off San Diego’s La Jolla Shores Beach as Bryn Waite, a former college soccer player, while investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of an unresponsive person floating in shallow water, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Waite was pronounced dead at the beach.
Her body was discovered near the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, FOX 5 San Diego reported.

The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Waite’s identity and said both the cause and manner of death remain under investigation by San Diego police. Officials listed the place of injury as “Ocean – Undetermined,” with the date and time of injury still unknown.
