A former employee of the Cook County Corrections was handed a prison sentence on Wednesday after being convicted for his role in a fatal shooting that took place in 2023 outside a restaurant in Niles, as per court records.

The incident occurred in April 2023, in the parking area of Miraj located at 8801 Milwaukee Ave. in Niles.
Nearly three years after the tragic event, Northbrook resident Alan Kettina was found guilty on six counts related to the murder charges.
On Wednesday, Kettina received a 60-year prison sentence.
At the time of the shooting, Kettina was working for the Cook County Department of Corrections, according to police reports.

Mark Asber, 22 of Niles, was shot outside the nightclub. He died at a local hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators said the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the shooting.
Prosecutors said Kettina shot Asber in the back as he was walking away.
Kettina’s attorneys claimed the victim intimidated and threatened to harm him and his family if he did not smuggle contraband into the Cook County Jail.
