A tragic incident has unfolded in Ooltewah, Tennessee, as a former New York Jets first-round draft selection finds himself facing serious legal charges. Darron Lee has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Lee was apprehended at the scene on Thursday. Details regarding the victim’s identity have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
Lee, 31, has a notable history in the NFL, having played 58 games with teams such as the Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Buffalo Bills between 2016 and 2020. Drafted 20th overall by the Jets in 2016, the former Ohio State linebacker earned recognition as the defensive MVP of the 2015 Sugar Bowl.
In addition to the murder charge, Lee faces allegations of tampering with evidence. The sheriff’s office noted that further charges might arise as the investigation continues to unfold.

“Due to the condition of the victim and the residence, HCSO Criminal Investigative Services Detectives responded. Preliminary findings indicate the victim’s death was the result of a homicide,” the Hamilton County sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Lee has a Feb. 11 court date.
He was previously arrested for assault and domestic violence in 2023.
