Ex-West Point cadet sued for secretly drugging pregnant girlfriend with abortion pills

A former West Point cadet who acknowledged secretly drugging his pregnant girlfriend and giving her abortion medication without her knowledge or consent is facing a civil lawsuit tied to the 2022 incident.

The woman, referred to in court filings as “Jane Doe,” sued Caleb T. Suh in New York Supreme Court on Oct. 28. She alleges assault and battery and is seeking financial damages.

According to the complaint, Doe and Suh were cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point when she discovered she was pregnant in January 2022.

The lawsuit claims Suh repeatedly urged Doe to end the pregnancy, even though she told him she planned to have the baby. Although he later appeared to accept her decision, he allegedly used her identification to open an online pharmacy account in her name and order abortion medication without telling her.

The complaint says Suh went to Doe’s barracks room on Feb. 4, 2022, carrying a beverage he called a pregnancy protein shake. After drinking it, Doe became ill and repeatedly slipped in and out of consciousness.

Suh later acknowledged in federal court that he gave Doe abortion medication without informing her or obtaining her consent. Within hours, she became severely ill and was transported to a hospital, where doctors determined that she was experiencing a miscarriage.

Doe reported what happened to the Army Criminal Investigation Division at West Point in May 2022.

Federal prosecutors charged Suh in June 2026. He pleaded guilty on June 30 to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a dating partner.

As part of his admissions, Suh said he had used his girlfriend’s identity to establish an online pharmacy account and obtain abortion pills without her knowledge. He also acknowledged acquiring Xanax so he could sedate her before administering the medication.

“My intent was use the Xanax to unwittingly sedate my girlfriend so that I could then administer the abortion pills, which I had obtained via the online pharmacy,” Suh said, according to the complaint.

Suh also admitted that he misled Doe by making her believe he supported continuing the pregnancy before giving her the medication. He said she later miscarried “as a result of the abortion pills that I had administered without her knowledge and consent.”

Following his departure from West Point, Suh enrolled at Cornell University, where he graduated in May 2026. He later began a master’s program at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

A Cornell spokesperson told News Outlet that Suh answered “No” when asked during his transfer application whether he had ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at another school. Cornell said the institution he previously attended had indicated that he was in good academic standing and eligible to return.

A person familiar with the situation told News Outlet that Columbia did not know about Suh’s status until the New York Times contacted the university Friday, after which the school acted quickly. The person said applicants are not required to disclose previous criminal convictions on Columbia applications.

In October, Suh asked a federal judge to delay his sentencing until January 2027, citing his desire in part to finish the semester at Columbia. Federal prosecutors did not object, and U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern approved the postponement.

Doe is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages in the civil case.

“Our complaint sets out that our client was forced to endure an unimaginable trauma and was robbed of a pregnancy she wanted, while Mr. Suh has since managed to attend not one, but two ivy league schools. We are outraged on her behalf and plan to aggressively pursue justice,” Russell Kornblith, a partner at Wigdor LLP, said in a statement provided to News Outlet.

West Point and Suh’s attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
