AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Salvation Army of Augusta is teaming up with Doc’s Porchside to gather bedding donations for those staying at the Center of Hope emergency shelter.

As reported by the Salvation Army of Augusta, over 60 individuals depend on the Center of Hope for a secure sleeping environment, and during July, the shelter’s average occupancy was closer to 70 people per night, primarily consisting of women and children.

“We’re witnessing a rising number of families in need of shelter,” stated Major Jonathan Raymer, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Augusta. “A simple item like clean bedding can significantly impact restoring dignity and comfort during challenging times. This drive will help us stock up the shelter and enhance our service to those who depend on us.”

Organizers say Doc’s Porchside is hosting the bedding drive at both its Augusta and Grovetown locations.

“We’re honored to collaborate with The Salvation Army to assist our community,” said Daniel Scholer, owner of Doc’s Porchside. “Our restaurants have always centered on community, and this initiative is a chance to ensure that families experiencing homelessness have the essentials they need.”

The community can drop off donations at either of Doc’s Porchside’s two locations or at any Salvation Army location in the Augusta area.

  • Doc’s Porchside Augusta: 3035 Washington Rd, Augusta, GA
  • Doc’s Porchside Grovetown: 5147 Bluegrass Trail, Grovetown, GA
  • Any Salvation Army Family Store (North Augusta, River Watch, Peach Orchard, and Thomson), the Kroc Center, or the Center of Hope

Donations Needed (new or gently used preferred):

  • Twin-sized sheets and comforters
  • Pillowcases and pillows
  • Blankets

The community can also ship items directly to the shelter by purchasing from The Salvation Army’s Amazon Wishlist, at www.salvationarmyaugusta.org.
