New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s likely triumph in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary has ignited a national discussion about the implications for the Big Apple and the Democratic Party if the Democratic Socialist party member secures election in November.
His plans, if elected, include implementing rent freezes, establishing city-owned grocery stores, boosting the minimum wage to $30 by the year 2030, and making New York City more resistant to policies from the Trump era by cutting all ties with ICE and bolstering support for illegal immigrants.
According to Mamdani’s platform, he aims to protect immigrant residents by enhancing the city’s sanctuary policies: removing ICE from all city locations, ceasing any collaboration, increasing legal aid, and safeguarding personal data.
