Gavin Newsom and Marco Rubio set to sit together at World Cup match

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to attend Friday’s World Cup match with Secretary of State Marco Rubio — and, apparently, there’s already some attention on how the governor might look seated beside a leading Trump administration figure.

According to an official familiar with Newsom’s schedule who spoke to Politico, the two are set to share a suite during Team USA’s opening game against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

“The Governor is there to support Team USA,” the official said. “Any frame-mogging that occurs will be purely incidental.”

“Frame-mogging” is a Gen Z term describing a situation in which one person’s build — often shoulder width, muscle definition, or overall size — makes another person in the same photo or video appear less physically imposing.

A spokesperson for Rubio declined to comment.

Newsom and Rubio are both widely viewed as possible candidates in the 2028 presidential contest.

The governor has been peppered over the past years with questions on a 2028 bid, and he told CNN in February that the only thing standing between him and a run for president is how his family feels about it.

Newsom has stated he would “be lying” if he denied contemplating a presidential campaign, and indicated he will make his final decision after the midterm elections.

Rubio, on the other hand, has been propped up by President Trump as a potential solid choice to be his successor along with Vice President JD Vance, with potentially both on the same ticket.

“I like them both,” Trump told The Post on who should run. “And I like them together.”

Newsom has been bragging about the 14 World Cup matches that California will host, more than any other state. Eight will be held in Los Angeles and six in the Bay Area.

“California is proud to welcome people from every corner of the globe and showcase the values that define our state — opportunity, inclusivity, and respect for all,” Newsom said in a statement.
