Passengers on a cruise ship sailing through rough seas got more than they bargained for when waves up to 40 feet rocked passengers onboard.
According to the New York Post, a video shared on Instagram captured huge waves crashing into the Quark Expeditions’ Ocean Explorer ship as it journeyed through the Drake Passage, a notoriously treacherous stretch between Antarctica and South Africa’s tip.
“Picture signing up for a 48-hour rollercoaster ride,” one travel blogger commented on Instagram. “Yes, we were secure, and it was wild, possibly even enjoyable at times. Absolutely a trip of a lifetime!”

Murphy stated, “I’m proud to say we endured not just one but two ‘Drake Shakes.’ If you’re fortunate, you get the ‘Drake Lake.’ However, for us, it was the ‘Drake Shake’ with waves reaching 35 feet.”
