Billionaire hedge fund mogul Bill Ackman has called on a “subdued” former Governor Andrew Cuomo to withdraw from the New York City mayoral race. Meanwhile, he has thrown his support behind Eric Adams for reelection.

Ackman, who previously contributed $500,000 to Cuomo’s unsuccessful Democratic primary bid, admitted late Wednesday that Adams is the sole candidate capable of defeating Democratic contender Zohran Mamdani at the polls.

“In summary, my conclusion is that Adams has a strong chance of winning the upcoming election and that the Governor should step aside to enhance Adams’ likelihood of success,” he wrote in an extensive post on X.

“I say this while having a high regard for Andrew Cuomo and his contributions to New York State. But it was abundantly clear in his body language, his subdued energy and his proposals to beat Mamdani, that he is not up for the fight.”

Ackman said he made the call after meeting with both Adams and Cuomo at length earlier this week.
