Gilgo Beach Suspect’s Family Harassed by Masked Duo: Lawyer

Just over a month after Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann was sentenced for the murders of eight women between 1993 and 2010, two masked people were reportedly seen pounding on the door of his Massapequa Park home.

The pair, dressed in black masks, T-shirts and shorts, fled from the porch of Heuermann’s New York residence on Tuesday, police and the family’s attorney told Newsday.

Robert Macedonio, who represents the family, told the outlet that Heuermann’s ex-wife, Asa Ellerup, and her two children, Victoria and Christopher, were inside the home when the two individuals began banging on the door.

In the video, the two masked men can be seen on Heuermann’s porch before taking off as the family dog barked.

Macedonio said a police report was filed, adding that Ellerup believes the incident was an attempted break-in.

A Nassau police spokesman confirmed the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Tuesday, but said it did not meet the department’s criteria for an attempted break-in because no one tried to enter the home.

Macedonio said the family continues to face constant harassment.

“This is the constant harassment that she faces on a daily basis, with people driving by, saying stuff as they walk by,” Macedonio said of Ellerup. “They leave stuff on the door or throw stuff. They make comments when they drive by; pointing, taking pictures on a regular basis.”

Heuermann was sentenced in June to three consecutive life sentences without parole followed by four consecutive sentences of 25 years to life after admitting to murdering eight women.

At the hearing, Heuermann spoke before he was sentenced.

“I’m responsible,” he said. “The words I would say have no meaning.”
