Platner secured a commanding 75 percent of the vote, leaving his competitors far behind. Although Governor Janet Mills, who had earlier withdrawn from the race in light of Platner’s growing popularity and polling strength, remained on the ballot, she received 20 percent of the vote. David Costello, the other Democratic contender, finished in third place with just 7 percent.
