Chilling footage shows dirt bike rider’s ‘reckless’ act on busy bridge: ‘Death-defying stunts’

A daring motorcyclist on an unregistered trail bike was caught executing perilous stunts on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, weaving through traffic and performing wheelies.

Startling footage recorded at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday captures the man speeding northward across the iconic bridge.

The video reveals the rider engaging in a series of risky maneuvers, including jumping on and off his bike, standing on it, and skillfully navigating through three lanes of bustling traffic.

He was part of a larger group, consisting of at least 40 other trail bike riders, all seen recklessly navigating the bridge.

In one dramatic moment, a rider maintained a wheelie for over 13 seconds, almost losing balance as he nearly tipped backward before recovering.

The lead rider of the group also performed multiple wheelstands, at one point raising the bike to a near-vertical position while standing on it.

Police respond

Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway following the incident.

“Police were called to the Sydney Harbor Bridge following multiple calls of a large group of trail bikes and motorcycle riders riding in a dangerous manner,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, with assistance from Polair, tracked the riders to the M4 tunnel before the group dispersed a short time later.”

It is understood that police could not initiate a pursuit due to safety concerns.

“As inquiries continue, anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” the spokesperson added.

TfNSW condemn “reckless” act

A Transport for NSW spokesperson has also condemned the act, which comes after a string of incidents, including dozens of e-bike riders riding across the bridge in February.

“Transport for NSW is aware of footage showing a rider performing dangerous stunts on the Sydney Harbor Bridge,” the TfNSW spokesperson said.

“This behavior is reckless, illegal and extraordinarily dangerous. Riding at speed, performing wheelies and weaving through traffic on one of the state’s busiest roads shows a complete disregard for the safety of other motorists.”

They noted that risky behaviors like those shown in the video can have “catastrophic consequences”, not just for the rider but for innocent motorists and pedestrians simply going about their day.

“We strongly condemn this behavior. Our roads and bridges are not playgrounds, and this kind of stunt riding will not be tolerated,” they added.

“Nuts”

The footage has quickly gone viral on social media, with the social media account Mosman Collective re-sharing it on Instagram.

“This is nuts,” said one user.

“Law and order is gone in this country,” another lamented.

It is an offense to drive recklessly or dangerously in NSW, with fines reaching up to $1,560 or up to nine months in prison, as well as an automatic license disqualification of three years.

NSW also has strict ‘anti-hooning’ laws, specifically designed to target this kind of behavior.

In some extreme cases involving unregistered or illegal vehicles (like non-compliant e-bikes or dirt bikes), the state has even moved to seize, impound or crush the vehicles.
