HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. () — A suspect wanted in connection with a Highland Park shooting that left a man critically wounded Monday night was taken into custody Friday in Indiana, city officials said.
The shooting occurred in the 300-block of Walker Avenue, an area of Highland Park located near the Highwood border.
According to police, the victim, a 30-year-old man, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities said Tuesday morning that his condition had begun to improve.
The arrest followed the release of images by investigators showing two persons of interest who were reportedly seen speaking with the victim shortly before the gunfire.
Police later determined that one of those individuals was a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued. Highland Park police then coordinated with federal and regional law enforcement partners after the investigation suggested the suspect had stopped at a Highland Park home before leaving the area.

On Friday, officers in Fort Wayne, Indiana, responded to a call for service involving the suspect. During that investigation, authorities discovered the active arrest warrant out of Lake County, Illinois.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to remain in custody in Indiana on local charges until he can be extradited to Illinois, where he is expected to face charges tied to the Highland Park shooting.
Police have described the shooting as an isolated incident and said the people involved were known to one another.
Officials did not immediately say whether they are still looking for a second person on Friday.
