A hit-and-run in the heart of Midtown Manhattan Wednesday has left one person dead and another hospitalized, police have confirmed.
According to police information provided to Fox News Digital, the unfortunate event occurred shortly before 2:40 p.m. They responded to a 911 call reporting a car accident at the intersection of East 40th Street and 5th Avenue.
A vehicle with a personalized license plate that said “TIMES SQUARE” reportedly hit a couple visiting from Hamburg, as noted by the New York Post.

One of the suspected vehicles is said to be a Toyota Sienna van.

A witness recalled the car making a sharp maneuver before reversing into the couple. “I don’t believe the driver realized they had hit people,” Paredes said, speaking Spanish via a translator.
Another witness, Houssaim Coly, said his coworker described the crash as “a terrible accident.”
“No arrests have been made, and the investigation is being conducted by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad. The name of the deceased is awaiting notification of their family,” stated the NYPD.
