WASHINGTON — After enduring the longest funding hiatus in US history, the Department of Homeland Security is set to receive the bulk of its financial resources again, thanks to a House vote on Thursday.
On Thursday, the House passed a funding bill via voice vote, effectively reopening most DHS agencies. However, agencies responsible for federal immigration enforcement remain unfunded as the vote marks 75 days since Democrats initially halted the spending.
With President Trump’s expected endorsement, agencies such as the US Coast Guard, Secret Service, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Transportation Security Administration are poised to be fully funded.

Meanwhile, Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with Customs and Border Protection will await funding through a separate budget resolution anticipated in the near future.
The Senate had approved the measure unanimously in the early hours of March 27. However, House Republicans initially blocked it, citing insufficient funding for border security.
