HUMAN remains have been found in the search for a family of four who went missing after their boat capsized.
David and Mary Maynard and their two kids vanished without a trace after getting lost at sea in August 2024.
The husband and wife were vacationing in Alaska with their two children Colton 11, and Brantley, eight, when the tragedy struck.
The boat that they were on capsized around 16 miles off the Alaskan coastline.
US Coast Guard officials launched a search before suspending their investigation.
Months later, private investigating groups conducted search missions and found a capsized boat in a bay, as reported by KWTX.
The vessel was found in early May and the remains were found weeks later.
Divers managed to retrieve three sets of remains from the boat and officials believe the remains belong to the Maynard family.
Medical examiners are now working to positively identify the remains.
An autopsy has yet to be conducted.
The initial search for the family involved planes, divers and helicopters.
But, Coast Guard officials suspended the search within one day.
Officials revealed the factors that might influence them to cancel a search mission.
They consider the chances of survival and factors such as the weather temperature.
David, who managed a lawn business, had spoken about his holiday on social media just days before the tragedy.
He was thrilled when he managed to spot his first bear.
Months before the tragedy unfolded, he struggled contain his pride in a post where he gushed about Brantley playing baseball.
“Shows the look of determination he has,” he said at the time.
Brantley and Colton both played soccer and baseball, while Mary worked as a nurse.
Friends paid tributes to the Maynard family.
“The Maynards left a significant impact on numerous individuals, from the joy they shared with us to the love and sense of family they fostered,” wrote friend Tanashea Aviles on a GoFundMe page initiated after their disappearance.
“The void they leave is beyond words, but I believe if we unite as a family and a community, they would know their true significance to everyone.”
