Authorities investigate ICE ramming incident in New Jersey
Criminal defense attorney Josh Ritter and former NYPD Lt. Darrin Porcher weighed in on a separate New Jersey case in which an undocumented immigrant allegedly struck an ICE agent with a vehicle, pointing to what they described as a stunning 3,300% surge in vehicle attacks targeting law enforcement officers.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed a detainer for an undocumented immigrant accused of driving into a group of pedestrians in Nashville, leaving four people injured.
Felipe Alvarado Hernandez, 47, was arrested June 13 after police said he steered a pickup truck onto a sidewalk in downtown Nashville while trying to make a left turn, hitting four people. Authorities said two of the victims required wheelchairs after the crash.
Hernandez faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, failing to provide information or render aid, failing to file an accident report involving injury or damage, a financial responsibility violation involving injury and driving on a revoked license. He was taken into custody on July 28, more than a month after the alleged incident.

A Department of Homeland Security official told News Outlet that ICE New Orleans recently lodged the immigration detainer for Hernandez following the charges.
The official also said one of the injured pedestrians remained hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Burn Unit as of July 29.

“When illegal aliens break our laws and endanger our communities, ICE will work with our law enforcement partners to ensure they face the consequences of their actions. Our officers remain committed to enforcing the law professionally, protecting the public, and upholding the trust placed in us by the American people,” said ERO New Orleans acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig.
According to DHS, Hernandez entered the country at an unknown date and location. He agreed to leave the country on Jan. 5, 2004, after Michigan’s Roseville Police Department referred him to ICE following an arrest on a retail fraud charge that was later dropped.
