Indiana Republican's Problematic Remark About Trump, How He's Voting on State Redistricting

Indiana Republican’s Controversial Comment on Trump and Its Impact on State Redistricting Vote

Indiana’s legislature is currently debating a redistricting proposal that could potentially bolster the number of Republican-held seats.

Our reports indicate that some Republican lawmakers have already expressed reservations about the plan. Former President Donald Trump has reportedly been in touch with Indiana legislators, emphasizing the significance of redistricting for maintaining control of the House. Republican Governor Mike Braun also supports the initiative.

However, another obstacle has emerged in the redistricting effort.

Republican State Senator Michael Bohacek has announced that he will not support the redistricting proposal. His reason is unexpected: Trump’s use of the term “retarded” in a Thanksgiving post about immigration, referring to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, troubled Bohacek deeply due to his personal connection—his daughter has Down Syndrome.

“I will be voting NO on redistricting,” Bohacek stated. “Perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority.”

“I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority.”

This is just wrong; that isn’t how you should be deciding bills. You should be deciding bills based on whether the decision on the bill is best for your district (in this case, Michiana Shores) and Americans, not based on whether you don’t like a word that Trump has used. So, because Bohacek’s personally offended by something Trump said, what he’s doing could lead to the Democrats taking back the House.

It isn’t just about whether Trump deserves a congressional majority; it’s what’s in the best interests of the American people, which isn’t helping the Democratic Party get back the House.

If the Democrats get back in, any positive conservative policies will fail. All we will have are investigations and a third impeachment effort.

By the way, it should also be noted that Trump has directed millions toward support for more Down Syndrome research in the past. He’s also issued statements in support, including one talking about “commitment to standing against those who seek to discriminate, devalue, and demean the sanctity of their lives” of people with Down Syndrome. Does Bohacek know that?

Bohacek got roasted by many Republicans on X for this type of reasoning.

Meanwhile:

Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to huddle via conference call with Indiana House Republicans this weekend ahead of their upcoming state House session to redraw congressional maps, according to two people familiar with the planning and an invitation viewed by POLITICO.

So maybe Johnson will have some positive influence on the situation and help bring it home.

Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the “Golden Age” as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
