JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Johnson City man was indicted after allegedly shooting and injuring officers in January.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has reported that 21-year-old Robert Wayne Clifford Hodson faces charges of aggravated assault, specifically for using or displaying a deadly weapon, with three counts against him.

A TBI news release states Hodson’s charges stem from an officer-involved shooting on Jan. 12, 2025.

The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) was on a search for Hodson after a suspected sexual assault incident that took place on Walnut Street that evening. Hodson was eventually seen near the crossing of Maple Street and South Roan Street.

“When Hodson saw the officer, he produced a weapon and shot at the officer, resulting in the officer returning fire,” the release states.

It is claimed that Hodson fled the area as officers followed him. The TBI reports that another confrontation with police happened in the 100 block of E Pine Street.

During the second encounter, Hodson allegedly produced the weapon again, which led to two JCPD officers firing at and striking him.

Hodson was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On September 18, the Washington County Grand Jury issued indictments for Hodson. These were delivered to him on Tuesday while he was in the Washington County Jail for different charges.

Based on a JCPD release from January 24, Hodson was charged by the police with aggravated rape, aggravated assault, and interfering with emergency calls, linked to the alleged sexual assault from January 12.
